What sets ITAC apart is our proactive, integrated approach to ladder safety. Our Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) team delivers quarterly workshops, toolbox talks, and site-specific training modules that go beyond compliance. We teach our teams to recognize hazards, inspect equipment, and make smart decisions in the field.
Our ladder safety curriculum includes:
- Pre-Use Inspections: Every ladder must be inspected before use for defects in feet, rungs, rails, spreaders, and labels. Damaged ladders are tagged and removed from service immediately.
- Proper Setup: Ladders must be placed on stable, level surfaces. Extension ladders are set at a 4:1 angle—1 foot out for every 4 feet up—to ensure stability.
- Safe Climbing Practices: We enforce 3-point contact at all times, prohibit carrying tools while climbing, and require slip-resistant footwear.
- Storage & Maintenance: Ladders are stored in secure, hazard-free areas and regularly inspected to prevent deterioration.
We also emphasize situational awareness. For example, in a recent incident, an electrician fell when a ladder was set at an unsafe 5:1 angle due to space constraints. The lesson? Always pre-plan, ask for help, and never compromise on setup.

Ladders are essential across ITAC’s diverse project portfolio—from pharmaceutical cleanrooms to power substations and food processing plants. But each environment brings unique challenges. That’s why our ladder safety protocols are tailored to the task, the site, and the client’s needs.
- Pharmaceutical & Cleanroom Environments: We use fiberglass, non-conductive ladders rated Type 1A or 1AA to meet stringent safety and contamination standards.
- Power & Electrical Projects: Metal ladders are strictly prohibited near energized equipment. Our teams are trained to identify electrical hazards and select the right ladder for the job.
- Construction & Retrofit Sites: We integrate ladder safety into our broader fall protection strategy, including harnesses, anchorage points, and engineered access systems.
Our goal is not just to meet OSHA standards—but to exceed them. We continuously update our training based on incident data, regulatory changes, and field feedback. And we empower every employee to call a Stop-Work if they see unsafe ladder use.
