Continuous Digester & O2 Delignification
We served as the trusted engineering partner to install a new continuous digester, to add a second stage O2 reactor as well as a larger EOP reactor in an existing Kraft mill to provide higher quality pulp and increased throughput. The project included complete engineering services for civil, structural, fire protection, electrical, instrumentation and controls as well as Balance of Plant services for process, and piping disciplines. The project also included commissioning support. Due to a compressed schedule, project execution was fast tracked and required close coordination with the client, vendors, and the construction company.
Specifically, we installed new chip conveyors, a chip bin, a continuous digester, a pressure diffuser, and heat exchange equipment at the existing Kraft mill to loop drawings, connection diagrams, location plans, instrument installation details, instrument specifications and a functional control narrative for the OSBL process and equipment. We also installed a new O2 and EOP reactor along with inline mixers and booster pumps as well as a new knotter after the digester blow tank, which included the addition of a Kappa sampler to the existing multi-point analyzer.
We provided complete engineering design for the OSBL process and equipment. New DeltaV DCS equipment using CHARMS I/O was designed and integrated into the existing DeltaV system to control (365) new loops and (45) new motors. Existing loops were migrated from PROVOX cabinets to DeltaV to allow the older controllers to be shut down. We designed the DCS cabinets, junction boxes and network cabinet for the project and generated all loop drawings, connection diagrams, location plans, instrument installation details, instrument specifications and a functional control narrative for the OSBL process and equipment. Design to expand the existing GAI-Tronics system was included along with providing on-site commissioning and startup support for the (800) I/O point system.
